New York, NY – Working in Support of Education (W!se) is pleased to announce it has received a generous grant from the Calvin K. Kazanjian Economics Foundation to support the Quality of Life INNOVATIONS (QLI) Program.

QLI invites high school students to become social entrepreneurs by using applied research to solve real-world social and community issues. Students identify an issue, conduct scholarly research, and develop solutions and recommendations together with financial implications and implementation ideas. QLI students submit their proposals for change to the QLI Scholarship Competition. The top three earn scholarships for college which will be supported by funding from the Foundation in 2023-4.

“We are delighted to receive this generous grant,” said David Anderson, President & CEO. “The scholarship money made available through the Foundation’s support will provide much-needed financial assistance for students as they transition to college.”

QLI is a unique civic engagement program that motivates students to address community issues that they truly care about. Last year’s first-place winner, Hamna Maqbool, from High School for Telecommunication Arts and Technology, for example, researched teen dating abuse and its affects on their mental health and their physical and spiritual well-being. She worked to promote revisions in the NYS Health curriculum to include lessons on teen dating abuse as well as a multi-prong awareness campaign.

“I really loved that exhilarating feeling when my partner and I finally saw the effects of our implementation. It took us an entire year’s worth of hard work until we were able to get our idea going. When we saw just how effective our implementation was, we were thrilled that we actually contributed to our community!”
