Millionaire Mindset: The Wealthy Are Weird!

Recently, I’ve been thinking a lot about what sets the wealthy—I’m talking the filthy, stinking rich—apart from everyone else. What I’ve determined is this… The wealthy are WEIRD! What do I mean by that? Well, everything they do is just a little different from the rest of the world.

I recently heard it said, “The reason you’re broke is that you don’t think big enough.” Friends, when I heard this, I immediately thought, “I don’t know about that. I think pretty big. In fact, most people are scared by the big ideas I come up with.” But that’s the mindset that holds so many of us back. Instead of comparing our thoughts to those of the wealthy, we’re measuring them against the thoughts of “most people.”

You see, one of the key characteristics of wealthy business owners is their ability to think big. They don’t limit themselves to conventional or mediocre goals. Instead, they set ambitious, visionary goals that others might deem impossible. People who live with a millionaire mindset aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo and seek unconventional solutions to achieve their objectives.

For example, I have been given a vision that one day, I will be speaking in front of tens of thousands of people, inspiring them with my vision and dreams. I can see myself achieving extraordinary levels of income and success because I see myself already in that position, and I’m almost reverse engineering my path to get there. Friends, the wealthy set high goals that push them beyond their comfort zones and propel them toward greatness.

Habits of the Wealthy

As you might know by now, I am a voracious reader. I always have been. It never made sense to me to veg out in front of a TV screen or on my phone, when I could be improving myself through education. So, I came across a fascinating book. The author researched the daily habits of his wealthiest clients and compared them to those of the average Joe. What was revealed is a direct link to the millionaire mindset that sets the wealthy apart from the rest of the world. So what are these habits?

Dream Setting and Visualization

One key habit of the wealthy is that more than 80% spend one hour per daydreaming and visualizing their success. Now, some of you are thinking, “Hold on a second, Justin! You’re telling me the wealthy kill an hour a day just daydreaming?” Friends, that’s exactly what I’m saying. Only, they aren’t daydreaming about trivial things like, what’s for dinner next Tuesday, or how much better the world would be if nobody ever put pineapple on pizza.

Instead, they spend time each day daydreaming about where they want to be, setting themselves up for their future success. This practice of dream setting helps them to anticipate roadblocks and plan their path to success.

Continuous Learning and Self-Improvement

Another crucial component of the millionaire mindset is a dedication to continuous learning and self-improvement. In the same book, they revealed that nearly 80% of the wealthy engage in 60 minutes of daily practice or education in the areas that will help them achieve their goals. This commitment to learning allows them to think differently and bigger than the masses.

Now, I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with sitting down at the end of the day and watching a movie with your family. Friends, don’t misunderstand me. But consider how much time you spend each week, watching TV, scrolling through social media, or even reading for pleasure. I’d be willing to bet that for most of you, the total of that time is greater than you ever realized.

If you allocated even a fraction of the time spent on your weekly “time wasters,” you could learn valuable skills and traits that could help you get closer to achieving your goals. So, the wealthy make time to think, to learn, and to practice.

Positive Self-Talk and Mind Protection

King Solomon is widely considered the wisest man to ever walk the earth. In fact, Solomon wrote the book, Proverbs which is just chock full of wisdom for our daily lives. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; For out of it are the issues of life.” Now, the Hebrew word for heart is often interchangeable with mind or spirit. The imagery in this verse is much deeper than one might initially consider.

What King Solomon is saying here is to protect your mind. He even uses the term, “Keep,” which is also the name of an enclosure for sheep. You see, as shepherds would move their flock from one location to another, they would often gather thorny brambles and bushes to form a keep for their sheep overnight. This would keep the sheep in and potential predators out.

Therefore, if we keep our minds as diligently as the shepherd keeps his flock, we shield ourselves from the negativity that can take root and derail our chances of success. Friends, this is the very reason that I have a mantra of about 36 different Bible verses that I speak over myself. The wealthy keep their minds with all diligence. They speak life into themselves to train their thoughts from becoming negative, and to shield themselves from the negativity that will inevitably come from the world.

People with a millionaire mindset engage in positive self-talk regularly. They speak to themselves in affirmations and avoid letting seeds of doubt from naysayers take root in their minds. This positive mindset helps them stay focused on their goals and overcome challenges.

The Wealthy Don’t Perceive Risk

It might sound funny, but the wealthy don’t perceive risk in the same way as others. What do I mean by that? Let me explain it this way… Let’s say you’re walking with your family, along a major city street. Suddenly, your child begins to wander into the street as oncoming traffic bears down on them. In that moment, you’re not going to care about anything but stopping your child from going into harm’s way.

In that instant, you will understand that the risk of inaction is greater than any other. Because of this, you will scream at the top of your lungs. You’ll push people out of the way. You don’t care what people think because you know that if you don’t prevent your child from wandering into traffic, you’ll lose them forever.

This is how the wealthy perceive risk. They understand that there’s a potential for loss, for failure, even for pain. But they see the risk of inaction as a much greater risk than the risk of failure. This mindset allows them to take calculated risks and pursue their dreams without fear.

Wrapping Up…

Friends, the millionaire mindset is foreign to so many of us, that those who have it seem weird. But have you ever considered that maybe you’re not creating the wealth you desire because you’re not thinking big enough? When I say, “think big,” I’m talking about more than just great business ideas. That’s a part of it for sure, but I’m talking about developing the habits that the wealthy exhibit.

The mindset of the wealthy is one of dreaming, continuous learning, positive thinking, and calculated risk-taking. By adopting these habits, you can begin to think differently and achieve success in your own life. Hopefully, I’ve given you something to think about. In the meantime, let’s go out and make it a great day. It won’t happen on its own. You’ve got to make it happen!
